The Method Page
The settings on this page affect the means by which a
window is minimized to the taskbar notifications area and
the appearance of the minimized windows.
The minimization to the taskbar notifications area can be
triggered by using the Windows standard
'Minimize' command, available for each window
that can be minimized, or by using a user-definable hot key
combination.
Use the 'Minimize' system command
If you choose to use the '
Minimize' system
command you must define the keyboard modifiers that alter
the way the minimization works. The keyboard modifiers are
the
Ctrl,
Shift, and
Alt keys and you
can set the requirement that a specific key must be pressed
or not while issuing the '
Minimize' command
in order to perform the minimization.
For example, if the
Shift and
Ctrl checkboxes
are checked and the
Alt checkbox is grayed, the
minimization will occur only if both the
Ctrl and
the
Shift are pressed while minimizing.
Caution:
if the '
Minimize' system command is
used, the console windows on
Windows NT/2000/XP will
not be minimized to the taskbar notifications area. If you
need this kind of windows to be processed by
SmartMinimizer, use the hot key option instead.
Use hot key
If you choose to use the hot key option, the active window
will be minimized when you press the hot key combination. A
window can be minimized by using the hot key even if it's
running a modal dialog box (such as the open file dialog
box).
Caution:
when you use the hot key you can minimize any
top-level window. If a window was not intended to be
minimized ever (i.e. it has no '
Minimize'
caption button or system menu command), minimizing it by
using the hot key might result, in rare cases, in erroneous
application behavior.
Create a taskbar notifications area icon
If you choose to create a taskbar notifications area icon,
each minimized window processed by
SmartMinimizer will show up in the taskbar
notifications area as an icon. The displayed icon is
typically the minimized window's icon.
To restore the minimized window you must left click the
icon. Right clicking the icon opens a popup menu that
contains the '
Restore window' command and the
minimized window's system menu (if the '
Use the
minimized window's system (window) menu' option is
checked).
You can also choose to display the same icon for all the
minimized windows, icon that can be chosen by using the
button to the right of the '
Always use this icon'
options.
If no taskbar notifications area icon is created, the
minimized window can be restored by using the
'
Restore' menu that opens when right clicking
the
SmartMinimizer icon in the taskbar notifications
area.
Refresh interval
SmartMinimizer refreshes the information related to a
minimized window at this interval. Both the icon and the
window title, as displayed in taskbar notifications area,
are updated.
