The Filters Page

The settings on this page are related to the filters used to filter out unwanted windows from being processed by SmartMinimizer.

Filtering is performed by taking into account the caption (title) of the window being processed, and is based on the well known use of the
* (star) and ? (question mark) wildcards.

A filter is made of a list of user definable rules, each rule being actually a mask against which the window's caption is matched. If the window's caption matches any of the rules that make up a filter, then the filter applies to that window.

There are two filters used by SmartMinimizer: the 'Never' and the 'Always' filters.

If a window's caption matches one of the 'Never' filter's rules, it will not be minimized to the taskbar notifications area. This is useful for preventing minimization to the taskbar notifications area of specific windows. For instance, if the 'Never' filtering is activated and one of the rules is '*Internet Explorer*', no Internet Explorer windows will be minimized to the taskbar notifications area.

If a window's caption matches one of the 'Always' filter's rules, it will be minimized to the taskbar notifications area regardless of any match of the window's caption with one of the 'Never' rules. As in the example above, if the 'Never' filtering is activated and one of the rules is '*Internet Explorer*', activating the 'Always' filtering and adding the 'TheBlueScreens*' rule will result in no Internet Explorer window being minimized, except the windows displaying TheBlueScreens homepage.

The user interface

The user interface for both the filters is the same: a combo box displaying the rules for the filter, an edit box in which the rule masks are edited and three buttons: 'Add', 'Update' and 'Delete'.

To add a new rule, enter the mask for the rule in the edit box and press the 'Add' button

To change an existing rule, select it from the combo box, change it's associated mask in the edit box and then press the 'Update' button.

To delete an existing rule, select it from the combo box then press the 'Delete' button.
